TOP:   liquid jet injected normal to a cross flow.

MIDDLE: liquid jet surrounded by a conventional annular gas jet at velocity much higher than the liquid. Because of the upward aerodynamic force exerted by the coflow on the liquid, the liquid achieves higher penetration with minimal increase in overall pumping power.

BOTTOM: the annular gas jet exits at MESPI conditions; penetration is maintained and the jet breaks up faster resulting in a more uniform distribution of fuel.
